Metallurgical and Micro-structural Analyses

8853 R&D Lab, coordinated by our engineer Mr. Paolo Battaini, offers Technical Assistance Services for an in-depth analysis of the client’s works. On receipt of a sample our Lab Technicians carry out chemical and metallographic analyses and electronic and optical microscopic tests in order to identify possible defects. We then provide the Client with a thorough analysis report complete with photographs of the sample’s microstructure.

  • Control of the microstructure (aspect, sizing of the crystal grain)
Control of the microstructureThe metallographic sizing of the crystal grain is important so as to be able to fine tune the fusion and broaching of the models
  • Analysis of the hard points (comet tails) - (on samples of lost-wax casting or laminated surface)
Analysis of the hard pointsThe “hard points” are caused by the insertion of polluting materials that generate several problems when polishing the items. The electronic microscope makes it possible to determine their chemical composition thus facilitating the solution of the problem.
  • Identification of a possible internal porosity (deriving from the presence of gas, shrinkage, etc.)
Identification of a possible internal porosityThe presence of porosity inside or on the surface of a piece under processing represents a serious quality problem. Optical metallographics enables to identify the origin of the defect (shrinkage or presence of gas) and find a solution.

In 2011 Ing. Battaini was conferred for his studies the Santa Fe Symposium on Jewelry Manufacturing Technology Research Award.
